On Friday March 3rd Paula Poundstone will be performing standup comedy at The Grand Theatre Center for the Arts in Tracy, CA. “I'm going to Tracy, even though she wasn't very nice to me in high school,” says the award-winning comedian.
Armed with nothing more than a stool, a microphone and a can of diet soda, Paula Poundstone is one of the most original comedians in the country, legendary for her razor-sharp wit, wry, intelligent humor, and a master at spontaneous interaction with a crowd. She is a popular panelist on NPR’s #1 show, the weekly comedy news quiz “Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me!” Her second book, The Totally Unscientific Study of the Search for Human Happiness (Algonquin Books) debuts on May 9, 2017 and is now available for preorder. Her new CD, North By Northwest: Paula Poundstone Live! (HighBridge), her first double-live, landed at #1 on both Amazon’s “Hot New Releases Non Fiction” and “Comedy CD” lists and on Billboards “Top Ten Comedy Albums” chart.
The talented humorist is the star of several HBO comedy specials and her own series on HBO and ABC. She is included in Comedy Central's list of 100 Greatest Stand-Up Comics of all Time and is the winner of an American Comedy Award for Best Female Standup Comic. She is also the first woman to share the stage with the President and host the White House Correspondents dinner, a role not until then offered to a woman in its seventy-two year history.
Poundstone is known for never doing the same show twice. Audiences often span three generations. Some consider her a role model for young women and men to see a woman command a room using nothing more than her wits. She can regale a crowd for over 2 hours. “That’s because I can’t shut up for the life of me,” Poundstone says. “I love my job, but even if the audience wasn’t there I’d still be doing it.”
