April 2027 is Tracy Arts Month

Arts Month is an annual celebration of creativity and culture organized by the Cultural Arts Division in the City of Tracy. A series of public events featuring artists and arts organizations from across the local area is presented throughout the month.

At the Grand Theatre Center for the Arts, programming will be specially curated to celebrate Arts Month with performances, exhibitions, arts education opportunities, and community events that highlight the creativity and talent of our region.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION: Main Entrance Terrazzo

Exciting News!

The Grand Theatre Center for The Arts is undergoing some much needed and wonderful renovations to our facility’s main entryway off of Central Avenue.

The facility will remain open for our normal operating hours, however the main entrance will be closed for the next few days. The 7^th street entrance will be open and community members will be able to enter the facility there.

We apologize for any convenience this has cause and we cannot wait for you to see the newly restored Terrazzo entryway once it is completed!

OUTDOOR CONCERT

Celebrate the Grand Theatre Center for the Arts’ 20th Anniversary and kick off the 2026/27 Season at GRANDfest, a FREE outdoor concert and community celebration!

As our way of saying thank you to the Tracy community for 20 incredible years of support, GRANDfest brings together live music, local flavor, and a day of celebration for all ages.

The festivities begin with a performance by the Youth Battle of the Bands winner, Karrot, followed by local favorites Young Guns, high-energy tribute band The Purple Ones, and an unforgettable headlining performance by A Flock of Seagulls.

Bring a lawn chair, a blanket, or your dancing shoes and enjoy an evening of great music under the open sky. Come hungry, too—local food trucks will be on-site serving up a variety of delicious eats, making it the perfect opportunity to support some of our community’s favorite tastemakers.

Join us as we celebrate 20 years of inspiring creativity, building community, and creating memorable experiences together. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

DOWNTOWN TRACY ARTWALK

Date: Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
FREE & open to the public

The Artwalk is a free, self-guided public event featuring local visual and performing artists, community organizations, and vendors in downtown venues and on the sidewalks of Central Avenue near/around the Grand.

The City of Tracy and the local business district collaborate to create a network of creative displays and activities. This annual event series is always fun, interesting, and draws thousands of visitors each summer to historic downtown Tracy!

We invite you to meet the artists of our creative community, experience and purchase art, visit with local merchants, enjoy the hospitality of downtown eateries, and be a participant in one of the unique, artful events that make Tracy special. The Artwalk is perfect for a family outing, adventure with friends, or shopping excursion!

Selected vendors will be notified in September.

Vendors are required to bring their own table, chairs, and pop up/tent.
No vendor fee required.

The last day to apply for being a vendor is Sunday, September 20.

Parking will be extremely limited, please be prepared to haul items several blocks.

Handicapped Parking will be very limited.

ARTS EDUCATION CLASSES

Date: Saturday, September 26, 10:00 – 2:00 PM
FREE! Pre-registration opens August 10, 2026 and is required.

Join a free class taught by our Arts Education Instructors!

Acrylic Painting: Students will follow a step-by-step guide to painting that covers techniques such as brush stroke, color theory, scale, value, shapes, and composition. Students will develop confidence and skill in their paintings.

Fused Glass – Plant Stake: This introductory workshop is perfect for students new to fused glass. Students will be taught the basics of working with glass, including how to cut and arrange glass pieces to create a one-of-a-kind plant stake. Pieces will be fired and may be picked up the following week.

Beginning Salsa: Learn basic salsa steps and attain a fundamental knowledge of basic patterns. Students will learn concepts to lead and follow. No experience necessary.

Preschool Drawing: This class is for preschool students who want to have fun while being introduced to ways of learning through hands-on activities. Their motor skills will be developed while exploring new ideas and ways to expand their creativity with visual techniques as they draw. The most important part of this class is discovery for your child. Come have fun, draw and color with us. All materials are provided, and your child will get to bring their art projects home for everyone to admire!

Drawing with Pastels: This introduction to pastels is a wonderful experience for students as they learn and use their imagination, express creativity with vibrant colors, and expand their skills. The instructor will spend time with each student and provide a step-by-step learning process to achieve success, while learning in a fun environment. Working with vibrant pastel colors allows each child to tell a story through a world of bright colors, learn art history, and talk about famous artists.

Hula & Tahitian Dance: Students will learn Hula and Tahitian dance movements and choreography in this class perfect for beginner and intermediate students. Dancers will learn to tell a story through their hands and body movements.

Americana – The Art of Rowing: Join the Arts Education Program for an exclusive workshop taught by John Giehl, Ed.D. Take a peek at American popular culture/ social history from the mid-1800s to mid-1900s. Our “knothole” will be the work of Thomas Eakins, Norman Rockwell, Currier & Ives as they take “snapshots” of the recreational activity “Rowing.”

Ceramic Hand Building: This introductory workshop is perfect for students new to ceramics. Students will be taught the basics of working with clay, including how to wedge and form a handmade dish. Pieces will be fired and may be picked up the following week.

GALLERY EXHIBITION

Enjoy a special gallery exhibition celebrating the people, performances, and moments that have shaped the Grand Theatre Center for the Arts over the past 20 years. Explore captivating photography by Bogdan Condor, whose work highlights our 20th Anniversary Season, alongside Zoe Del Prete, whose images beautifully capture the energy of the Grand’s performances and community events.

As part of the exhibition, we invite you to become part of the celebration by adding your own memories and reflections to this interactive showcase.

Beach Ball Extravaganza!

Date: Friday, July 17, 2026 from 6:00PM – 8:00PM

Registration includes entrance to the event for participating individual with special needs and/or disabilities ages 10+, and one (1) guardian ages 18+ and older.

Join us for a Sensory-Friendly Dance and Craft for those with special needs and/or disabilities to celebrate Summer!

Get ready to dance, create, and have a ball at our sensory-friendly Beach Ball Extravaganza for those with special needs and/or disabilities! This sensory-friendly gathering will feature music, adaptive lighting, and a calming atmosphere to ensure a fun and comfortable experience for all.

Dance Zone – Enjoy a reduced-volume, judgement-free dance floor where everyone can move at their own pace.

Craft Station – Create a summer-themed craft with a variety of materials.

Quiet Corner – A designated calming space will be available for anyone who needs a break.

Whether you are dancing, crafting, or just enjoying the atmosphere, this event is about connection, creativity, and care.

Registration includes entrance to the event for participating individual with special needs and/or disabilities, and one (1) guardian ages 18+ and older.

*Guardians must be available to assist participant during the entire event.

Art Garage Sale

The Arts Education Program is planning an Art Garage Sale for Saturday, April 18^th from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and we are looking for vendors and/or donations!

Do you have art related materials you would like to get rid of? Supplies you no longer use or items left over from a past hobby? Get rid of them at our Art Garage Sale!

There are two ways to get involved:

Donate the items to the Arts Education Program. Donated items will be sold at the Art Garage Sale at low cost, with 100% of the profit going towards the Arts Education Program. Donated items may be dropped off at the Arts Education Program Office on the second floor of the Grand during our business hours. All items will need to be dropped off by Thursday, April 16^th by 5:00 PM for processing.

Sell your own items at the Arts Garage Sale and keep 100% of your profit. If you would like to be a vendor and sell your items during the Art Garage Sale, please email us at boxoffice@cityoftracy.org with an inventory list of the items you would like to sell. We will then send you a link to register to be a vendor. Participation is free.

Vendor Participation Policies and Procedures

Participation is free.
This is a cash only sale and all items must be priced $50 or less.
Participants are responsible for processing their own sales and must be present during the entire event.
The Grand Theatre Center for the Arts has the right to refuse any participant.
Space available for participants is limited. Participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Registration at TracyArtsandRec.com must be completed by Thursday, April 16^th at 5:00 pm to participate.
Set up will begin at 9:00am on Saturday, April 18, 2026. Unsold items must be taken home at the conclusion of the Art Garage Sale —the Grand closes at 2:00 pm on that day.
One chair and one table is provided for each participant. Participants are required to supply any additional display furniture including their own tablecloth if needed.
By partaking in the event, participants agree to sell and display items at their own risk.
All sales are final.

Dia de Los Muertos Family Day

Date(s) & Time(s): Saturday, October 24, 2026 from 10:00AM – 2:00PM

The 10th Annual Downtown Tracy Artwalk is in conjunction with this event.

Free and Open to the public!

Join us for this annual event featuring vendors, hands-on activities, food, community altar and so much more:

COMMUNITY ALTAR
The public is invited to contribute to a Community Altar, on display in the Pombo Lobby on the 2nd floor through Monday, November 2. Participants may deliver or send images of loved ones to celebrate and honor. Favorite foods, toys, poems and special keepsakes are also welcome. Photos can be dropped off at the Arts Education Office at the Grand or emailed to: boxoffice@cityoftracy.org.

COMMUNITY ART SHOW
A Community Art Show will also be on display beginning October 24 through November 2, on the 2nd floor. Participants of all ages are welcome to submit family-friendly, Día de Los Muertos-themed art in any media suitable for wall display. Artwork must be self-hanging, framed, or on stretched canvas, with hardware. Submissions are due by Wednesday, October 21 or Thursday, October 22, to be dropped off at the Arts Education Program office on the 2nd floor of the Grand. FREE MOVIES
A special free movie showing will be featured during the event, with two screenings of beloved films. These screenings are Sensory Friendly, with lower volume, dimmed lights, and flexibility for movement, entry, and exit. Sensory items will also be available upon request, ensuring a comfortable and welcoming experience for all attendees. Movie titles and times are to be announced.

MERCH FOR SALE
2025 limited edition Día de Los Muertos t-shirts and bags are available for purchase in the Grand Galleries! This unique merchandise features original calavera artwork designed by local artist Paco Garcia. Buy yours in the Grand Art Galleries on the first floor during the event! Select sizes of the 2021 Día de Los Muertos t-shirts will be for sale.

VENDORS
The Día de Los Muertos Family Day at the Grand will feature a selection of vendors in our mercado. Come support local artists who will be selling their custom Day of the Dead themed pieces including but not limited to sugar skulls, stuffies, dolls, clothing, jewelry, accessories, art and more!

The last day to apply for being a vendor is Friday, October 16.

FOOD
Food Trucks will be available on 7th street next to the corner of Central Avenue just outside the Grand. Please come support these local food vendors.

ARTWALK
This event is also being held in conjunction with the Downtown Tracy Artwalk, a free, self-guided public event that showcases local artists and community organizations along the sidewalks of Central Avenue in front of the Grand. The City of Tracy, in collaboration with the local business district, has created a vibrant network of creative displays and activities as part of this annual event series, which is now in its 10th year.

CRAFTS & PHOTOS OPPORTUNITIES
We will have several craft areas perfect for everyone to create and learn about Dia de Los Muertos. The building will also be decorated for the celebration with several spots to get some great photos! Please tag us in your photos: #atthegrand or on Instagram @GrandTheatreTracy

Join the Arts Education Program on Tuesdays for movement and art classes designed for active adults ages 50 and up! New and on-going activities are announced each month.

Classes take place at the Grand three (3) Tuesdays each month from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm.
