Downtown Tracy Mural Project

The Downtown Tracy Mural Project began in the summer of 2015 in conjunction with the Tracy Artwalk.

The Project invites local and regional artists to create murals and street art at 7th Street and in Jackson Alley, on the walls of the Grand and the West Side Market Building.  This innovative project features temporary murals owned by the City of Tracy. They remain on display from weeks to years, rotating as new works are presented.  The public appreciation of these projects has led to further interest to create murals at other locations in downtown Tracy.

Several themes have been explored in a variety of media, ranging from spray paint to wheatpaste, energizing the streetscape and celebrating the arts in our community.  We are open to any ideas which add interest and excitement to the downtown district!

Artists and creative collectives are invited to submit proposals on-going.  Proposals and project creation is managed by the Cultural Arts Supervisor, who is available to assist artists through the process.  In 2019 the Downtown Mural Project transferred from the Exhibitions Program at the Grand, to the Civic Art Program.  Proposals are now evaluated by the Tracy Arts Commission, kept on file, and remain the property of the City of Tracy.  Recommended artists will be contacted to participate in current and future opportunities, and can receive compensation for time and materials.

Artists currently featured on 7th Street and Jackson Alley: Matthew Blacconiere (2017/18), Hector Covarrubias (2019), Ilena Finocchi (2015), Paco Garcia (2017/18), Caitlynne McNamara & Friends (2019), Kenny Mencher (2016), and Will Watts (2020).

1/23 Update:  Please note the Grand Theatre Center for the Arts is expected to incur roofing, building repairs and re-painting across in 2023.  The temporary murals on the Center will be lost at that time.  As a result we are currently not scheduling any new projects on the Grand, but new proposals may be considered for the West Side Market Building in Jackson Alley.  All proposals will be kept on file for future review and reference.
