Downtown Tracy Mural Project

The Downtown Tracy Mural Project began in the summer of 2015 in conjunction with the Tracy Artwalk.

Local and regional artists are invited to create murals and street art on the block surrounding the Grand Theatre Center for the Arts.  This innovative project features temporary murals owned by the City of Tracy.  They remain on display from weeks to years, rotating as new works are presented.  The public appreciation of these projects has led to the creation of murals with business/property owners at other locations in downtown Tracy.

Several themes have been explored in a variety of media, ranging from spray paint to wheatpaste, energizing the streetscape and celebrating the arts in our community.  We are open to any ideas which add interest and excitement to the downtown district!

Artists and creative collectives are invited to submit proposals on-going.  Proposals and project creation is managed the Cultural Arts Manager who is available to assist artists through the process.  Proposals are kept on file and remain the property of the City of Tracy.  Selected artists will be contacted to participate in current and future opportunities, and invited artists can be compensated for time and materials.

Artists currently featured on 7th Street and Jackson Alley:  Matthew Blacconiere (2017/18), Hector Covarrubias (2019), Ilena Finocchi (2015), Paco Garcia (2017/18), Caitlynn McNamara & Friends (2019), Kenny Mencher (2016), and Will Watts (2020).

**08/20 Update:  Please note we anticipate the Grand Theatre Center for the Arts will receive repairs and re-painting of the facility in 2020-21.  While most of the current murals will be covered at that time, the Mural Project remains active.  A new Veterans Awareness/Wellness project by Will Watts will debut in August, as part of the City of Tracy – Civic Art Program in collaboration with the Tracy Arts Commission.  As the Mural Project evolves we will explore the possibilities of having both temporary and semi-permanent projects not only on City locations, but also in collaboration with the downtown district members on private properties.
